Weekend to End Breast Cancer 2009
The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is an annual two-day, 60 km walk through the streets of six major Canadian cities. This year’s Toronto Weekend took place on September 12 and 13, 2009. Over the last six years, the Toronto Weekend has raised over $70 million, benefiting the Campbell Family Institute at Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital. Princess Margaret Hospital is Canada’s foremost cancer research and treatment centre, one of the top five comprehensive cancer research centres in the world.
For the third year in a row, a team from the Toronto Chapter of Women in Mining participated in the Toronto Weekend. Despite the tough economic times, support from the mining community, including the single largest donation to the team, from the staff of Scott Wilson Roscoe Postle Associates, resulted in the team raising $63,496, surpassing their goal of $50,000. To date, the Women in Mining team has raised over $300,000 for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
